For the 2017-2018 school year, Roxboro Community School (RCS) has introduced a Glee Club for the first time.
Ernie and Ginger Moore, co-directors of the club and parents of a junior and freshman at RCS, wanted to give students an opportunity
to sing and perform different varieties of music.
Ernie Moore was the chorus teacher at RCS from 2008 to 2010. From 2014 to 2016, Moore volunteered as an accompanist for the Chorus class taught by Christine Morgan, the former RCS chorus teacher.
“Chorus was my favorite part of being in school so I was really sad when Chorus wasn’t offered as a class last year,” explained Ernie Moore. “I wanted students at RCS to have the opportunity to sing and develop a love for harmony that is characteristic of choral music.”
The Glee Club is open to all high school students. Ernie Moore says this is because, by the time students reach high school, their voices start to settle into the voice parts that they will sing with as adults.
Ernie Moore said they are planning on performing popular songs, Broadway show times, and choral classics as a club. Members of the Glee Club will also work on music for the RCS Holiday program in December.
